German pop and folk music aficionados will now be able to subscribe to Schlager TV on Telus OPTIK TV
Toronto - August 21, 2019

Ethnic Channels Group Ltd. (ECG), has announced that they have secured a distribution deal for Schlager TV with TELUS Optik TV. Schlager TV is the first Dutch TV channel that focuses entirely on German-language pop and folk music, current artist news, greatest hits programs, as well as special events and concert performances. TELUS, one of Canada's largest telecommunications companies, provides TV services in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec.

Schlager, which literally means 'hits', has been one of the most popular forms of German language music for decades. Ninety-percent of Schlager TV's programming is popular folk music from Austria and Germany.

Schlager TV's Director, Gerard Ardesch, welcomes the channel's new reach overseas: "The North American market offers great opportunities for a German-language music channel like Schlager TV. More than three million Canadians and fifty million Americans are originally of German descent. In both countries, these immigrants and their descendants share a cultural background, with folk music playing an important, connective role. "

"We are very pleased to provide music fans from German speaking countries Schlager TV on TELUS Optik TV," commented Slava Levin, CEO of ECG. "It's a great way for people to connect with their homeland, with music that truly represents the heartbeat from home – which is ECG's motto!"

Schlager TV is now on free preview on channel 2977. Call Optik TV to subscribe!
